What I Wish I Had Known: Everybody has their reasons (and most likely the reason isn't you)

I have always tended to take things very personally. When people don’t reply to me on chats, block me on social media, stop hanging out with me, are rude to me, it was always to do with me in my head. I would run through what I did to offend them in my mind and I would draw conclusions based on those reasons about how I am such an unlikeable person, how nobody wants to be with me, how I messed up the relationship.

But my friend recently sat me down and said simply 'its not all about you mate'. Those words just resonated with me. We tend to think that people do things because of us, maybe to spite us on purpose or because they hate us or something but think about it. When was the last time you angrily snapped at someone or didn't reply to them? Was it because they did something wrong or did you have your own problems going on and decided it was best for YOUR mental health and wellbeing to let them go?

Most of the time people go through life thinking about themselves, trying to improve their lives and happiness as much as possible. Nobody is really out to get anybody else (of course exceptions exist but there will always be exceptions!). If you feel someone is doing something against you remember they have their own reasons, their own struggles and most likely it has nothing to do with you.
