Not a kid
The 'Not A Kid' era to me is the collection of songs where I try and grapple with the idea of what being an adult is, identity, being disillusioned with the adult world, learning that your beliefs as a little kid were naive and taking responsibility and ownership of your life.
The title track of this era 'Not A Kid' is my exploration of who I was becoming as an adult. It deals with my broken dreams and the feeling I had let the younger version of me down as well as the realisation that adults are not the infallible heroes I saw them as when I was a kid and they can't always make my mistakes for me. It is the painful realisation that you have to grow up and accept that your mistakes are yours to make and own alone.

It deals with my broken dreams and the feeling I had let the younger version of me down as well as the realisation that adults are not the infallible heroes I saw them as when I was a kid and they can't always make my mistakes for me. I wrote Not a Kid in an attempt to understand why although I was an adult and should have had everything 'figured out', I felt just as lost and scared as I did when I was a kid. Writing it made me realise nobody really has it figured out. We are all just trying to do our best everyday to cope with this crazy concept called life.
WAITING FOR SUPERMAN
This was a harsh reminder to myself that only I can be the hero or villian in my own life- nobody else owed me anything or was responsible for any of my circumstances. there was no superman.
Waiting For Superman is a song I wrote when I reached a point at which I thought I can't keep relying on someone else to own my problems and take responsibility of my life.. I realised there is no 'hero' that will come and save you and you have to be your own 'superman'
Wonderland
Wonderland is a song about seeking escape from the more difficult and painful parts of life, only to realise that they are a necessary part of being human and we can't outrun our pain forever
Wonderland is about about the idea that we all have a happy place we escape from life for a bit. But sometimes that happy place can be destructive in the form of addiction or being dependent on someone or even zoning out and living in the past. This is is about recognising that we create Wonderland in our minds and coming to terms with that.
